Most disturbing blog on triathlons ever
Topic: On the way to Triathlon
Umm... Thanks to my parents' decision to take a particular kind of interest in my hobby, I now have, curtesy of dad, a disturbing little digital video collection of several of my races, suck as this one. I'm pretty embarassed but for the sake of blog-like journalism and to document the entire experience of doing triathlons, here goes. Warning, if your family members are even remotely computer savvy, you too may be a victum of really bad home video. God help me. My Video

Olav the future great sailor
Topic: Hot People
When I was a child, I loved reading about adventures like this. Now there's a sequel to one of my favorite adventures of all times. It's stuff like that which makes me want to do triathlons, travel, and eventually, circumnavigate the Black Sea.

Olav is hot because he's going to repeat his grandfather's voyage aboard the

Kon Tiki - Thanks for inspiring millions, Olav! I hope you keep a blog of your journey and the preparations! In fact, I'll go look for it now, and if I can't find it, I'm going to send you and email and ask you to keep one. I think this is going to be soooo great!

Lots of info coming soon, like tour de Black Sea, 2010, and how to best stalk me during my first marathon next week.

Off to do more work - currently still in Vegas, baby.

oh and...
a contract is pending on our new house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!! We willl
soon have a place that is big enough to put babies into. of course, babies
would put a damper on the triathlon training, but we all know i'm not going
to the olympics anyway, so that's okay :-)

off-season plans
Now that the season is over, here's my plan to hit it hard during the
off-season trainiNG:
1. do the marathon. somehow
2. swim continuously, at least once a week, if not 3 times.
3. don't stop the bike or the run
4. swim clinics to learn back-stroke, butterfly, and breast-stroke for
cross-training.
5. figure out spin classes or hook up with those century riders in my
building for winter spin training
6. hit the gym hard with Bob.

season not for nothing
I'm proud (yes I'm bragging again, about something pretty pathetic actually)
that I won the 1st place in my division for the super sprint triathlon...
that would be... I'm first out of... 11... but 5th out of all women and 17
overall... out of only 96. But hey, in a year, that's not a bad achievement.
Humor me here?

Anyway, things to remember for this raCE:

1. come early
2. you can bring the ipod for the run
3. no dogs
4. great spectator area
5. bring more changes of clothes
6. have something warm in the water waiting area with you to wear because
the air can be colder then the water :-(
7. bring flip flops for the swim
8. you can warm up before the swim

there is a bottle swap and plenty of water and poweraide for those doing the
big race :-)

all of the above is subject to change

the chicago triathlon by the way has a nasty long transition area after the
swim. bring an extra pair of old shoes for after the swim.

note to seLF: buy new wet suit.

missing connections with family and friends. on the road for 5 weeks and
counting. missing concerts and planned trips. missing and screwing up race
schedule. money sucks.

bummer
1st Sprint triathlon attempt for the year failed, bike busted

Harbor Lights Triathlon, Waukeegan Illinois
reuters 24-July-05
1. arrived on time
2. got everything prepped
3. spent about 20 frightening minutes in the murky water, therefore
completing the swim
4. in and out of transition
5. and half way through the 1st loop of the tri...

my tire got caught in a crevise at full speed. I'm okay, but the bike
isn't. brand new bike will need a new front tire. :-( total total
bummer. Really mad, angry. Front wheel totally bent. 1/2 way through
the race. coudln't even run the bike in cuz it wouldn't go....

Spent the rest of the race fixing others' flats and spreading out my
cache of tupe fixin' supplies. Mad to the tears. But heck, I can now
get a tire off with 3 house keys. Yay. well... bummer.

and then, I swear, a killer bee landed on my arm. Earlier, different
bee brought down another rider. Yuck.

tick tock tick tock tick tock
Friday - 11pm found Ben and I at the emergency room with the Dog, who
ate the "ant plant", roots and all. We were there till 5 am and had to
come back later to pick her up... means i missed my workouts saturday
which was brutal. So I made up for it yesterday, big time.

activity with hours
Bike= 2:20;
Swim=1.5
move=5

yesterday I burned these caloriES: 1215 swimming; 2268 biking; 2268
moving. 189 driving. And this doesn't count whatever else I did...
5940. Lance burns 6500 calories every day during most stages of tour
de france. If I count all the other stuff I did yesterday, like the
little stuff... I'd be doing what lance is doing. The bad thing is
that I had a sandwitch and a fruit cup, cookie, and a malt, and a
snack bar. And that was all I ate yesterday. that means that...I ate
about 1000 cal yesterday and am about -5000 for the day. That means if
I weigh myself right now, I've probably lost 3-5 lbs. Would be
interesting to see what I actually weigh right now.

Must get more flexibe, stroner, and leaner by the first tri; must blow
myself out of the water for the last.

Helped Shailah with her resume Fri. She was sick. Hope I don't get
sick. Can't afford to get sick.

Finished moving into Ben's place this weekend, so now will have more
time and can focus on the tri stuff.

Today my personal trainer said that he can begin to see the definition
on my chest. I dunno how attractive that is in a girl. Ben is drinking
2 protein shakes a day and is bothered by the fact that my arms are
getting to be about as big as his. He is aksing me and the trainer how
much I'm bench pressing. I told the trainer not to tell him but the
trainer loves it - he said "You should have seen Ben's workout on
Friday" - he needs the push and the slight competition is giving him
that extra push. I dunno why Ben's so obsessed with it, he can bench
at least a 150 more then I can!
