Topic: On the way to Triathlon
Ok, went to my first spin class in an effort to get better at biking. learned hand positions and body positions. Did jumps, runs, and rides. It was challenging, I pushed myself, and it was fun. I'm already more confident about my race. But I now realize biking is an art and a science, not just something that should be taken for granted as far as classes. It was great, will do again soon's this cold is over.

Ok, another day another run. got rained on, so the result is err, i'm sick. according to the heartrate monitor, 29:04 was the time (i forgot to turn it off right away), 2 minutes in zone 186 ave bpm. I was real nervours about the race, saw the last race's results and was intimidated. Only a few people did worse then my average time. So I really pushed myself. Gina came to watch, thanks Doll! Official race results: overall place 68 out of 80 time 28:49.7 13TH W'S OPEN

Topic: On the way to Triathlon
Today I ran my first 10 Mile race. 1st annual Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10. It was a very well managed race. I guess they always call it extreme if there are hills or trails or something. It was AVESOME! And easier then I thought it would be. I had the usual "I'm not goinng to make it, might as well quit now" within the first mile, but it went away quickly and from that point on it was fun. I got there late but caught up. A really nice and cute guy named Kevin kept me company for a good 20 minutes as we caught up to everyone - he was the tail bike patrol. I tried to find him to talk to him after the race but lost track of him. I may have been the last one to start, but I was certainly not the last one to finish. And he had to stay with the tail. I wonder if he was married. But that belongs in another section of this journal, doesn't it? Anyway, the shoes and the socks and the clothes held. Gotta remember to maybe not wear a g-string next time though. Also, my heart monitor band, as I found out when I got home, has cut into my chest and now I have a 3-inch long gash to the blood! Can't believe I didn't feel it during and after the race! Not till I took the monitor off. I'll loosen it for next time. Personal results according to my monitor: 98 minutes, 177 ave heart rate, 30 minutes in zone.that gives me a mile time under 10 minutes, which is great. Race results: 278 235 11 W25 Chicago, IL 1:41:41.6 10:10 Really sore now, and tired. Will take a nap. The body made a huge poop after the race. I heard the body does nasty things during the marathon. Maybe I shouldn't find out. But I'm beginning to fathom doing one... SOME DAY. See if I feel the same in the morning first! There were a lot of people in this race from the trail challenge I did two weeks ago. We got dry t-shirts at the end, and there was great food, massages, and giveaways. The trail was really pretty. There was one NASTY hill they dubbed "big bertha" - It was a monster. They even wrote "almost there" near the end of it. I'll definitely try to do this again next year!

Topic: Golf
Today I played golf with Stella and Iris in the league. I missed a few weeks due to weather and laziness and meetings. It's so funny that I have a pet named Stella, and AY has a pet named Iris... And I'm playing with them. Anyway, I got to use my new clubs for the first time. I need help in the world of Irons. That'll be my next lesson. I also need to get a shorter-distance wedge. I love my new M wedge. I need to figure out what a shorter one would be. I can hit about 75 yards with my M wedge and I need something that allows you to go like 30 at most or something, with at least a half a swing. It feels unnatural otherwise. I also bought a 4, 2, and putters for gina and addie the other day. I was going to use all 3 and see which one I like the best, then give the other two as starters to them. All 3 are very nice. But I made my selection. It's a dunlop, very heavy. What is up with Irons? I can't hit Irons. I'm also better and more consistent with my woods, and the putting practice helped. I need to practice even more. I was 47 with 22 puts on a 9 hole. I had a couple bogies, one par, and the worst holes were an 8 and a 7 - no 9's today!

Went to the gym to get into the pool, since it is too cold outside. I did about 300 meters, 50's and 100's non-stop. Didn't work on my breathing as much. Sunday, Reed's suppose to help me with that. I also learned about the spin classes available. I should do two spin classes next week to get ready for the tri. And I did some weight machines - didn't want to run before the race tomorrow so this is all the workout for the day (plus golf) By the way, I got my wetsuit finally! It's a body glove and it doesn't fit perfectly, but it was only $25 at play it again sports. It'll do for now.

Wilson Park
Topic: Day to Day
And I thought I'd go to bed early! But an hour of my sleep may have saved a life. I finished writing BF a note and then I took Molly for a walk. It was around10:50 PM. We went to the park. She pooped twice. Sniffed everything. Really seemed interested in a particular piece of poopie and a white dog that was also being walked. On the way home, as we approached Long and Sunnyside, about two blocks from the park, we heard loud voices. A female was telling some guy to keep walking and mind his own business, and asserting she was not drunk. Someone else said something to another like "you were the closest when she was having a seizure." There was a commotion and a group of about eight kids in their late teens. We rounded the corner and got out of the way as they crossed Sunnyside on Long, towards Wilson Park. I caught a view of them. Two were dragging an unconscious or semiconscious person with long hair. I kept a low profile, then pulled out my cell and called the cops, because I was worried about the kid. Could be O.D. or alcohol poisoning. I explained to emergency services what was happening. It was 11:23 PM when I called. I described what I saw and told them the direction the kids were moving. I felt bad and went to follow them. Sure enough, they went to Wilson Park. It was now 11:31 PM and the cops hadn't come. The kids were in the middle of the park, leaning over the one kid that was on the ground. I called the cops again. I repeated my story and started circling the park. I didn't want to approach them because they were rowdy before. Now I think they were turning to scared. I was getting ready to approach because I was scared for the one kid. Where the heck were the cops? The fire station was right around the corner, at least maybe they could come? As I made another circle and tried to decide what to do, the cops finally came. I saw the paramedics from the fire station running with their orange tool boxes, and another squat car. Hopefully they got there in time. Never a quiet moment.

Topic: On the way to Triathlon
Ok, I'm in the swing of this Tri thing now. I'm doing one of my 3 sports every day, sometimes more then one a day, since Saturday now, without a break. Not too bad. I'm also learning a lot. I found a great site, it has general fitness info like nutrition and excersises and definitions. FITSITE. I've often wondered what my burn rate vs. intake of calories is. I know I can stand to tone down and improve my body fat ratio. I'm not sure what it is right now, but I can still see soft sports. So I did some research. According to the site above, A woman of my height, weight, and frame should consume 1518-1898 calories a day. Good to know. I also learned that a pound of fat is a heaping 3,500 calories. To lose one pound a week, you have to be burning or not consuming 3,500 less calories then you need. Today I had a jam packed workout but ate like crap too. So how'd I do today? Activities: walking - 20 min - sailing - 120 min - running - 30 min - cycling - 30 min - According to my cell phone, that's approximately 4500 calories! Plus I did crunches too and not like I was immobile the rest of the day. But let's say I was. Food: Ceral+milk - 200 hot dog - 261 fries - 160 m&m's - 210! I didn't know M&M's are sooo bad! They are more then breakfast!!! AAAAAgh tomatos - 24 propel fitness water - 20 ---------------------total: 875 OK, so if I burn/need 1518 cal a day, then today I'm: 1518-875+4500= 5100 for the day. That means I burned over a pound of fat today. That's not right because I'm not losing weight, I don't think, and I do stuff like this every day, although some days I eat more and drink lots of alcohol. But I think that my cell phone calorie calculator is off it's rocker. so a second opinion: walking - 20 min - 40 sailing - 120 min - 460 running - 30 min - 319 cycling - 30 min - 128 situps - 77 ----------------------- 1024 according to http://www.changingshape.com/ so then, 1518-875+1024=1667. Now that's more realistic. But lets face it, since the two numbers are so far apart, neither is anything but a crappy ass estimate. So I'll never know what really happened. All I know is that I am so tired now especially from all this typing. Good thing that burns calories too :-D I'm going to add different crunches and twists to my stomach workout because apparently 200 situps a day only builds 1/3 of a six pack, and I want it all...

Topic: Friends
I finally caught up on sleep -10 hours. So the other day, when I went clubbing, it turned out that one of my friends got totally thrown out of the club. I guess I got a few "butt" calls while it was happening. His phone must have been in his pocket and kept dialing my number and leaving voicemails. So I actually have a full recording of him getting kicked out of the club. It's sooo funny: Bejoy: (read his part with an Indian accent) What did I do? Bouncer: (read his part with a tough guy accent)You know what you did. Bejoy: I don't know what I did, tell me what I did! Bouncer: Oh, you know exactly what you did. Bejoy: I didn't do nothing ... it went on like that for a good 20 minutes. Then Bejoy actually left a real message, saying that he got kicked out, so that we don't look for him. I didn't get these until the next day because I just passed out when I got home. And then I had to piece all the calls together. I called Reed to get his story before I called Bejoy back. Turns out they were trying to hit on some girls, and Bejoy was a bit aggressive trying to get them to dance. He probably grabbed some girl's hands or something and freaked her out. I talked to Bejoy and he has no idea what he did. (as mentioned before). So I'm gonna have to talk to him about not making physical contact with strangers.

Elvis is alive!
Topic: On the way to Triathlon
Today, I managed to swim for a half hour, with very little improvement. Then I ran a race an hour later, to create a sort of messed up brick. Bejoy and a friend came with. Mom and Dad came to watch. During the race, many people, men, women and children ran in Elvis costumes, or sideburns, or related T-shirts. Some even had the blue suede shoes on. They ran singing and saying Elvis "lines". Too funny. Followed up by an Elvis concert, of course.
