work
Topic: Joblog
In the last 3 months, I've probably spent about 20 days in different hotels, and have been on probably over 15 flight segments.

Again, I quote my boss from this fall. We are not here to create road warriors.

Bull!

Last Tuesday, I found out I have a breast tumor. That night, my boss calls me around 10 PM and asks if I can be in Vegas first thing Thursday morning. Then off to Palm Beach for my fiancee's father's surprise b-day party. Then home to get wisdom teeth pulled. All four, thank you very much. I've almost recovered, and Sunday I drive off to spend 4 days on a client site. Only to return for blood work and to take out the stupid tumor.

Guess how much training I'm doing this month???

0. 4 months before the tri season starts, and I have nothing to show for it.

The wedding planning not going so well either, due to all of the above: finally met with a judge and planned the reception, made plans to looks at invitations, and picked out a hotel for the guests. That's about all.

And the home decorating has taked a backburner to everything else, so absolutely nothing has happened in the last 2 months.

That's about all I have to report.

The stapler
Topic: Joblog
I kind of interviewed for another job with a friend's company. Interesting opportunity but I am too loyal to my company right now. Plus I want to continue to be able to work from home and take bike rides in the morning forever. (when it's not snowing.)

But while surfing his corporate office in some NW suburban location, I spotted "the stapler" on a desk. This place looked like the scene from office space anyway and driving to the place felt like the first scene in office space anyway. I was even swearing in Hindi... Okay, I can't remember if the guy swears in Hindi or in Enlish actually... And to be honest, I only know like 2 swears in Hindi.

job update
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Joblog
here's a subject I don't like to talk about online. anything to do with work that's personal.

So here's an update to all ye faithful readers. I have been looking for about 2.5 months now, and there is an offer, I repeat, there is an offer on the table that I am finally happy about. Hoorah, hoorah. Tomorrow i go in to finalize the other one that's important. Watch this space for updates with final decission in the next two weeks.

As a side note, I got a new suit.

and another side note - I should probably hold off on hang gliding till I have corporate life insurance that kicks in. Some dreams can not be put off, others are worth waiting for. I will do it.

arthur macarthur
Topic: Joblog
i had a job interview today for JG here in chicago. The recritier things I'm a better fit for a different position for the company. The recruiter also told me a great story about his son's name. His wife is phillippina and so his son is half irish half phillippine. Dad's a big Civil war buff and I learned something new about the battle for Chattannooga. General Arthur McArthur, father of Douglass McArthur, is the one that said "I am Wisconsin", which is now the theme of UW anthem. Anyway, the recruiter thought this would be a fitting middle name for his son. After all, Douglass and Arthur both played a major role in the Phillippine campaign in the city where his wife is from. MacArthur. Great story.

The brady bunch
Mood:  not sure
Now Playing: the brady bunch
Topic: Joblog
Me and my coincidences. The last 5 HR persons I spoke to were cindy, marsha, and jennifer, greg, and mike. Notice a pattern here? I'm only missing one, Peter. NOT KIDDING!!!! isn't that freaky? They say if one looks for patterns, one will find them. I'm not exactly looking, this is pretty obvious: the Brady Bunch owns HR. The weirdest thing about this is that jennifer's last name is ....BRADY. Hah! Which reminds me, I got to send Cindy a follow up note before it gets too late in the day. I don't know what I'm writing, my fever is rising.

I had two interviews today, shouldn't write which companies. Even though I am sick. I'd have to move to a rural place for either job. I'd be payed more then now. I'd be able to get any house I want and go to school nearby to get my masters, not in the best schools in the world, but still. They'd be far away from everything, but they do have airports there. I dunno. They are driving distance from Chicago.
