Scott Rigsby
Topic: Hot People
Scott Rigsby is hot because he is the first double amputee to go to Kona and complete an Ironman Triathlon. Go Scott! Scott overcame all the challenges that he was faced with to come in under the 17 hour cut off, and now is helping enspire and educate and emancipate others. Sure inspired me. Go Scott Go. You can read more about Scott here. When I first started training for trying a tri, I met a spin instructor who runs a great non-profit organization. He didn't have a hand, but could still go to Kona, and has done so many times. It is very hard to swim or bike without a hand, and I would imagine, even run. Transitions have to be really tough too. Seeing first hand as someone does it who has a disability, really takes away any excuse if you have all your limbs and eye sight and such.

You can be dead and still make my hot people list.
Topic: Hot People

Hamilton was hot. As was Dame Anita Roddick. Unfortunately, I've only found out about her through her obit on BBC, but she seems like she was pretty cool. Unlike Luciano, seems that no one could say a bad thing about her (though she just died, so there's still time). Her charity work and the ethics that she brought to the business world, plus excellent products which I use, were definitely a huge asset to society. Bummer that she had to die at 64 years young.

Anousheh Ansari is hot because she is the first space tourist to visit the internaltional space station and everything. She's also really really cool and stuff. You can read her blog of the trip too!

I've been following this since it started but had no time to blog all about it.

Bansky
Topic: Hot People

Bansky is hot. If you haven't seen Bansky's work, go look. I'd like to go to wherever just to see it. If I could meet anyone on this planet I'd pick Banksy. Heck, people may have met Banksy and not even know it. Banksy to me represents a true artist. You don't see someone doing something so fresh and so new consistently. I define art to myself as something that sparks emotion or recognition in the viewer AS the artist intended. Now, depending on who the viewer is, the artist may intend them to preceive/feel different things from the art. And then the art sticks with you forever. You could be doing some mundane task 10 years later and you can think of a piece of art that you saw and smile or just remember with the emotion. Art causes a feeling that you then remember when something else gives you that feeling, or art that teaches you something new about the world or youself. Banksy takes all that to a new, exciting, elating level. Bansky rocks my world. On On, Bansky, and if you are ever in Chicago, Illinois, please please please tag us.

Also I have a special interest in temporary art. Art that is positioned in an area where it is in danger. Art that only exists for a fleeting moment. Example: sand, ice sculputre, soap foam sculpture, chalk or water color painted on a sidewalk. When it rains, it's gone! It's beautiful, and fleeting. Vulnerable. It is the relationship that it creates between emotion, beauty, and the very fabric of our existence that I find so intriguing and valuable. I wish I had more time to seek it out, to study it, but in the mean time, I'll just enjoy it as it comes.  Music performance - you had to have been there, an act of a gymnast, same... but these can be recorded. It is when things are not recorded in the traditional sence, and are only preserved in memory without effort when they are most valuable.

Bansky is saving the world, one mind and heart at a time. Infectious, inspiring, but never aspiring because it is already there. Surprizing, fun and clever. Go Bansky, go!

Olav the future great sailor
Topic: Hot People
When I was a child, I loved reading about adventures like this. Now there's a sequel to one of my favorite adventures of all times. It's stuff like that which makes me want to do triathlons, travel, and eventually, circumnavigate the Black Sea.

Olav is hot because he's going to repeat his grandfather's voyage aboard the

Kon Tiki - Thanks for inspiring millions, Olav! I hope you keep a blog of your journey and the preparations! In fact, I'll go look for it now, and if I can't find it, I'm going to send you and email and ask you to keep one. I think this is going to be soooo great!

Lots of info coming soon, like tour de Black Sea, 2010, and how to best stalk me during my first marathon next week.

Off to do more work - currently still in Vegas, baby.

Ben Saunders
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Hot People
Ben Saunders holds several records in long-distance skiing. He's only 27! He has incredible stamina, and he is a fantastic athlete. He's funny too. Did I mention he's awful good looking? He's going to do

some calendars or something soon, I'm looking forward to seeing what he looks like underneath that polar parka. Ben's the only human being and the youngest human being to make it to the North Pole

solo. Reading the expedition logs is very interesting. Ben also keeps a very up-to-date blog on his site. He trully is an inspiration. Bummer that he has a girlfriend (heck by now they could be married).

To give you an idea of what Ben does, here's an exerpt from his travelogue:

"To get a rough idea of how my day went, head to your nearest gym, turn the air conditioning down to -30 or so, find one of those cross trainer machines and churn away on the highest setting for nine hours. To simulate the pressure ridges every 30-40 minutes, fill a plastic bathtub with the entire dumbell rack, head outside, drag it up the steps of the fire escape until you're on the roof, lower it down the other side, stop to break the icicle off your nose and return to the cross trainer. "
